Vitus Capital AG is a data driven energy trading company in Europe with a focus on cross-border and over the counter trading in power, gas, oil and carbon emissions.

Vitus Capital AG carries on its trading activities in global commodity exchanges such as; ICE, EEX and also executes physical energy trading in local power exchanges e.g. IBEX, HUPX, OPCOM.

Vitus Capital AG is uniquely positioned as an energy trading company with a strong core of algorithm development and data science driven approach to markets. We trade power, natural gas, oil and carbon emissions across borders and exchanges.

We are actively trading in energy markets in EU, UK and global gas markets (Exchange, Broker or OTC) with:

  • Physical or financial settlement covering base, peak and customized periods
  • Short-term day ahead or intraday trading in spot markets
  • Forward trading from yearly to daily contracts in derivatives market
  • Futures, options and structured products

Data Science Backed Algorithms

Vitus’s core competencies are our in-house developed, data science backed machine learning / deep learning algorithms that support traders in daily decision-making processes and formulating strategies.


As Vitus, we collect data for all significant variables that may affect the price of energy globally.

We analyze the data and explain the impacts of the data on market price formation.

We manage the entire data flow in house, which allows us to also identify when algorithms may make errors and see inherent biases in price formation.

Real Time Models

In the current global energy market where the price of energy is moving from being dictated by local dynamics towards a more international pricing mechanism, we know the value of following the entire world’s energy developments. For this purpose, we are in the process of building relevant energy models for Japan, South Korea, China, India, Brazil, Russia and the US.


A few of our in house models which are working in real time are:
  • Global LNG model that tracks global LNG fleet and estimates gas deliveries.
  • European Power Demand, Wind Production, Solar Production models.
  • Norway Hydro Model with 6 weeks of forecasts, Global Hourly Weather Database that goes back to 1979 and soon extending back to 1952.

Our Approach

To meet the requirements of such an aim, your system should be able process and execute the data fast through exchanges’ API’s. Reliability and scalability of the system is a must if you are working in such a critical and fast-growing environment.

Beyond the Limits

We are using all the cutting-edge technologies available in distributed systems, data processing pipelines, cloud technologies and our distinctive approach to push the limits for alpha generation.

We have built our own execution platform from scratch, is collecting real time data on order books on ICE, EEX and Trayport for energy products for future contracts as well as real time electricity contracts.

Adaptability

The dynamic structure of our algorithms makes them applicable to different trading environments. Therefore, after modeling the power market of a country, it is possible to transfer the same algorithm to be deployed for another country. This feature gives us a great advantage in expanding our trading network, while minimizing our overhead costs.

Due to the scalability of our machine learning models and with our already integrated trading platform, Vitus Capital AG deploy the models in US power and gas markets and global oil markets.

Our Team

Since its inception, Vitus team has grown from 2 people to 20 fulltime employees, dedicated to automated commodities trading & asset management supported by machine learning algorithms.

Our quantitative research team consist of talented members with PhD/MSc degrees in computational physics, applied mathematics and finance degree.

Our analysts and data scientists have work experience and MSc degrees on machine learning field. Our software development engineers are experts in big data (streaming and static), processing on distributed systems and cloud technologies. Team members have undergraduate to PhD degrees in computer engineering and industry experience in application development.
